Summary: A Takarazuka original loosely based on Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream. On one Midsummer’s Eve, Puck (Suzukaze Mayo), a mischievous newborn fairy, happens to meet Hermia (Asano Kayo), a young girl with the ability to see fairies. Although fairies are forbidden to talk with or even be seen by humans, the two secretly become friends, but what will happen once Hermia grows up into an adult and can no longer see fairies…?

This is the version aired on the NHK channel with Ayaki Nao performing the role of Helen. It's a very cute show. I want to note however that there is use of a Native American headdress as a “costume” at the beginning of the show which appears for a very short time, so please be aware.

PUCK is very pure and wholesome and probably the most family friendly zuka show there is. It was definitely a show made with children in mind (this was when zuka still had the amusement park Takarazuka Family Land) and it’s just such a sweet and simple musical that makes me very happy.

This show was later restaged in 2014 by Moon Troupe with top stars Manaki Reika as Hermia and Ryuu Masaki as Puck. The 2014 version is also super cute and I like it a lot as well but I recommend watching the 1992 one first. The 1992 one is my personal favorite but you get something different out of both versions so I recommend checking both out if you’ve only seen one or the other.

Aside from the original songs like “Lover’s Green” and “Midsummer’s Eve” most of the music and songs were rearranged in the 2014 one (I adore the new “Growing Up” song in the 2014 version which is the cutest thing ever).

One of my absolute favorite things in 1992′s PUCK is Titania and Bobby, played by Hane Chisato and Amami Yuuki respectively. Their characters are just perfect and always puts a smile on my face.
