A 1080p HD upscaled version of this show was aired recently, so I thought it'd be a good time for me to go back and update these subs to go along with a rerelease. The audio is a looottt more clearer and I could hear much better this time so I fixed a bunch of mistranslations I made the first time. These are really old subs (I think the first one I ever made) too so I knew there were bound to be a lot of amateur subbing mistakes.

Updated review, including some musings on gender and masculinity in this show below.

hi! i thought i'd write an update post and treat my blog like a blog for once.

i'm actually currently studying overseas which means i've left all my zuka and OSK stuff (scripts, tapes, cds, etc) back home. it was somewhat of a deliberate choice because i really wanted to focus on my academic semester. the only thing i brought along with me was my ciboulette script. speaking of ciboulette, i was planning on releasing it sooner, but after going through the footage i had (the old NHK TV recording uploaded by this user on niconico) i realized it was missing a few scenes and songs, which is unfortunately often the case with these ancient recordings. i own the ciboulette audio casette tapes so i wanted to rip and edit all the missing scenes and songs into the video like i did with diga diga doo but alas, my tapes are back home in indonesia, and i wont be there for a while so it will have to wait. in the meantime, how did you all enjoy diga diga doo and angel's smile, devil's tears? i'd love to hear your thoughts about those two shows ^^ angel's smile, devil's tears has actually been requested a couple of times in the past so i take it it's somewhat of a popular old show.

also, thank you to everyone who volunteered to be proofreader/watchers! it's been very helpful for me, especially since i increasingly have less and less time for this little hobby. if you ever want to help me out and proof my stuff before i release them, do send me a message, i always appreciate any help i can get ^^ and thanks to everyone who sends me messages abt errors they happen to catch!

see you next time~

Vowing to drag a human down to hell along with him, he descends onto Earth and sets his sights on a man named Faust (Tsurugi Miyuki), an aged professor with no will to live.

a post just to say that i've done my (ir)regular checks on my subs and updated them all so please redownload them again, ESPECIALLY if you plan to use them to stream (sorry for the hassle!). aiau bridge had like 3 lines where i either just FORGOT to fill in the rest of the sentence or mistakenly wrote it wrong.

i'm really bad at proofing my subs because i don't have the patience to rewatch and sit through the whole show all over again after i've worked on them for so much and so long lol, so what ends up happening is that i just constantly update them time to time after i've released them. a very bad habit of mine.

so if anyone's willing and interested in becoming a proofreader to simply watch my subs to catch random mistakes or timing errors for me before i release them, please send me a message! thank you ^^

CLICK HERE for a (constantly updated) spreadsheet of Takarazuka shows that include blackface/racialized makeup, cultural appropriation, and culturally offensive themes. (Or as I like to call it: shows to avoid like the plague). Takarazuka has a long history of racism and colonialism that is still a problem to this day. I urge everyone to be aware of this problem and to not support or encourage these shows.

Hopefully this spreadsheet will be useful, especially to my fellow Takarazuka fans of color. Please be careful!

 What is Takarazuka Revue?

Takarazuka is an all-female theater from Japan founded in 1913. It is made up of 5 troupes: Star, Moon, Cosmos, Flower, and Senka (Special/Superior). You can read more about the theater on the Takarazuka wiki made by fans here.

 What is OSK Revue?

OSK Revue is another all-female theater founded in Osaka, Japan in the year 1922. They were one of the top "big 3" all female theater companies in Japan along with Takarazuka and SKD Revue (OSK's sister company). OSK has gone through many reformations, at one point having to dissolve due to losing their parent company's support. Through the efforts of volunteers (many of which were the actors themselves) the theater has reformed into a new company.

What is the difference between a “revue” show and a regular musical or play?

A revue show is a show which consists of song and dance performances that are tied together with a certain theme but does not have a plotline or story. There are however, some revues which do have a plotline (sometimes very loosely). Usually, a regular Takarazuka musical/play is presented in 2 acts (2 hours), but other times, a musical/play will only have 1 act so the remaining hour is filled in with a revue show.

 What is NHK?

NHK is a TV network in Japan that broadcasts Takarazuka shows on their channel. They do HD restorations of very old shows so an NHK recording means a very high quality recording.

Is your username a reference to something?

It’s a reference to my favorite Takarazuka revue show  Nightless Castle in Manhattan (Moon, 1996).

Who are your favorite Takarazuka stars?

Shiraki Ayaka, Kuze Seika, Todoroki Yuu, Ooura Mizuki... and a million others!

 What is Sky Stage?

Sky Stage is the Takarazuka cable television channel available in Japan. It broadcasts performances as well as regular programs featuring interviews with the actresses and behind-the-scenes information about the currently running shows.

 Can I request a translation?

Always feel free to suggest shows to translate. Although I do aural translations a lot, I'll be more willing to translate if you have the script. Also, please keep in mind I am only one person doing this as a hobby and I'm usually very busy!

Feel free to message me if you have requests or any other questions!

Summary: A revue that's also a fun little Takarazuka history lesson. To celebrate Takarazuka's then upcoming London tour in 1995, this revue showcases actual performances they've presented to their overseas audiences in their tours to America, South America, Europe, and Southeast Asia all the way back from the year 1938. There's also a couple of comedic skits in between here and there.

I’ve decided to put in some extra effort in subbing revues, from now on I’ll also be putting names of the siennes as they appear, as well as the credits for composers and choreographers etc.
